About the Organization
Through The Waters is a student support organization dedicated to improving college student academic success and well-being.
We bridge the gap between mental health and the daily student experience through peer-led “Body Doubling” (Study Buddy) sessions and digital community-building.
Co-founded by a psychologist and a university professor, our mission is to ensure no student has to navigate the stress of college alone.
Role Overview: Psychology Practicum for Academic Credit
We are seeking dynamic, self-motivated undergraduate Juniors and Seniors to serve as the bridge between our organization and college campus communities.
This dual-focus role involves University Partnership Leadership, where you will collaborate with a college’s student leaders to launch on-campus initiatives, and Online Community Leadership, where you will lead our digital “Study Buddy” sessions.
You will also be the creative force behind our online presence, helping us shift into more of an authentic, peer-to-peer content style that provides psychoeducation about mental health and academic success.
Key Responsibilities
- University Partnership Leadership (B2B): Collaborate with student leaders at partner universities to strategize peer-driven “Study Buddy” (body doubling) program on campus.
- Online Community Leadership (B2C): Host and facilitate online “Study Buddy” (body doubling) sessions within our digital community, utilizing co-regulation techniques to help peers maintain focus and productivity.
- Peer Education: Develop skills in digital psychoeducation, learning how to translate complex psychological concepts (like co-regulation and body doubling) into accessible, peer-led video content for a student audience.
- Marketing & Outreach: Develop and execute grassroots campus marketing strategies to increase session attendance among academically at-risk student populations.
- Data & Analytics: Assist in tracking session engagement and student feedback to help improve the “Study Buddy” model.
Learning Objectives & Competencies
This internship is designed to develop NACE-aligned career readiness competencies, including:
- Leadership & Teamwork: Managing peer-led initiatives and collaborating across different university structures.
- Communication: Bringing authentic, student-led voice into digital engagement, online content creation, and intern-led body doubling sessions.
- Critical Thinking: Analyzing engagement data to identify barriers to student success and proposing creative solutions.
- Community Management: Learning the nuances of digital co-regulation and maintaining a supportive online environment.
Qualifications
- Academic Standing: Must be a current Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Field of Study: Psychology, Social Work, Education, Marketing, Communications, or related fields preferred.
- Creativity: Comfortable being on camera and creating informal, high-engagement video content with a “student-to-student” aesthetic.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong interest in student mental health and academic success.
- Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with basic video editing tools (CapCut, Premiere, or similar) and comfortable using video conferencing software (Zoom).
